New England Fall Foliage - Global Village Kailua Boutique

New England Fall Foliage

Seeing New England fall foliage was on our bucket list this year. The region’s vibrant foliage, charming small towns and rich history made it an ideal choice for a vacation. Thanks to Hawaiian Airlines’ direct flight to Boston, we saved valuable time by not having a layover, dismissing the potential of getting stuck waiting in some airport.

Since we hit the ground running upon arrival, traveling light was a must. A carry-on and backpack fit seven days worth of clothing, lap top, ipad and personal items. This original Global Village Kailua coral designed backpack in sharkskin grey quickly became my favorite item on the trip. Padding for my lap top, padded straps, outer zip pocket for extra storage and a water bottle holder that fits a 40oz bottle, and especially a good footrest. Backpack details

Since most of my closet consists of sundresses and shorts, it was tough deciding what to wear. And when the weather fluctuates fifteen to twenty degrees throughout the day, and there is only so much room in your carry on, and you want to invest in pieces that you'll be able to wear more than once and at home too - the solution was to layer. In addition to jackets and waterproof shoes, packing items like light sweaters that can layer is a good choice. Plus it is always nice when your travel partner is willing to swap clothing items with you to change up you style. Ivory Sweater details

We picked New Hampshire for our leaf peeping excursion. Here are our suggestions for planning a weekend trek.

    1. Layered Clothing: base layer, mid layer and waterproof and windproof outer layer.  Navy Blue Long Sleeve, Muscle Tank, Performance Tee, Performance Long Sleeve
    2. Warm Sweater or Fleece: use these items for extra warmth.
    3. Waterproof Jacket: in case of rain, a waterproof, breathable jacket is essential.
    4. Hiking Pants: durable and comfortable hiking pants or leggings.
    5. Good Pair of Socks: Wool or moisture-wicking socks for comfort and warmth.
    6. Good Pair of Shoes: Comfortable and waterproof hiking boots with good traction.
    7. Backpack: A day pack to carry essentials like water, snacks, and extra clothing.
    8. Water Bottle: Stay hydrated.
    9. Sun Protection: Hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. Live Pono Dad Hat, Surf Dog Dad Hat
    10. Snacks: There are places to eat along the way and we stopped at The Little Red School House; however, you may get caught up in leaf peeping and not want to stop, so having snacks on hand is perfect
    11. Camera: To capture the beautiful foliage
    12. Insect repellent: Just in case. We did not use any at all during our visit, but it is nice to keep on hand.

Our last recommendation is timing. As we did the research, it was recommended to travel the last week in September thru Mid October for optimal views of colors; however, as you can see by the photos, we were a couple of weeks off of peak foliage because the region was experiencing warmer than usual weather and had quite a bit of rain. Nonetheless, the views were amazing! And we topped it off with a wine tasting from Seven Birches Winery!
